Disney’s Oga’s Cantina: no Reservation Needed

If you’re a Disney and a Star Wars fan, you’ll want to visit Oga’s Cantina in Black Spire’s Outpost, in Disneyland’s or Disney Hollywood Studio’s Galaxy’s Edge. In Disneyland, it’s one of two places that serves alcohol (the other is The Blue Bayou), and it’s an extra fun place to unwind for a few minutes in the parks.

Reservations

Technically, you need a reservation to visit Oga’s Cantina; in reality, I’ve been there four times since both locations opened and I’ve never used a reservation, (read on to learn more).

First Visit: Drinks & Fun, November 2019

The first time we visited in 2019, Oga’s had just opened, and we didn’t get the memo that reservations were required. We were initially turned away by the cast member attending the line; determined to find a way in, I approached him again a few minutes later when the line looked shorter to see if there were any openings, and because my whole party was standing there with me and the line was short, he let us in!

I found a way into Oga’s without a reservation!

My husband and I stood at the bar with one of our kids and ordered three drinks: The Jedi Mind Trick, Jet Juice and a non-alcoholic Hyperdrive.

Cocktails ~$15, Beers ~$12, Mocktails ~$8

The bourbon-based Jet Juice and Powerade-infused Hyperdrive were great; we don’t recommend the citrusy Jedi Mind Trick (it was watered down)

This first trip to Oga’s was unforgettable! We are lifelong Star Wars fans who have produced Star Wars kids, and while it’s not exactly a replica of the Cantina from A New Hope, the vibe is similar. DJ Rex mixes tunes on his turntable, songs you can find on ‘DJ Rex’ playlists in Spotify.

Second Visit: Double-Date, November 2021

We canceled our 2020 Disneyland trip for obvious reasons (for the first time in history, Disneyland was closed for hundreds of days), and were excited to return in 2021. We’d tried and failed to secure an Oga’s reservation beforehand, so anytime we were in Galaxy’s Edge during our trip, I pulled up the app and hit the magnifying glass on the bottom bar and typed in Oga’s:

Next, I clicked through on Oga’s:

Finally, I chose ‘join the walk-up list:’

Even though we were at Disneyland during a busy week, there were typically walk-up reservations available within 15-30 minutes anytime I checked. We grabbed a walk-up our third evening in the parks, and double-dated there with friends while our kids rode rides!

Tauntaun $16, Jet Juice $15, Cliff Dweller (mocktail) $35

We enjoyed these three drinks, but you know what I didn’t enjoy? Forgetting that the Jedi Mind Trick wasn’t good, and ordering it again (I left it out of the photo because I’m trying to forget I did that).

Third Visit: Mother-Son Lunch, November 2021

Our last day in Disneyland we had a reservation to build a droid in Galaxy’s Edge; when we found ourselves available early for that appointment, we headed over around lunchtime and The Droid Depot let us check-in early. While I waited outside, I logged into the Disneyland app and once again found Oga’s walkups readily available. I decided to take my oldest son–the only one in our family who hadn’t been–to lunch at Oga’s.

I’ve sat somewhere different each time I’ve visited Oga’s: at the bar facing the entrance, at a standing table between the booths and the bar, and at the bar facing the DJ. To my knowledge, you can’t request your seats…but just in case you find a way, my favorite spot was standing at the bar, facing the DJ, watching the bartender fill glasses with Blue Bantha. My son had two blue banthas, and because it was noon, I stuck with water:

Blue Bantha $13
Shortbread Blue Bantha Cookie comes with drink

We tried all the snacks on the menu, which was enough lunch for the two of us:

Batuu Bits $11, Happabore Sampler $21

The $15 Kaadu Pork Belly Slider were delicious, and are only on the menu seasonally. The Batuu Bits and the Happabore sampler were both unique and successfully made us feel like we were trying food on planet Batuu.

TAKEAWAYS

It may seem like you need a reservation for an otherworldly place like Oga’s Cantina, but I’ve found it easy to get walk-ups many times–so do your best, and may the force be with you.

  1. […] Perhaps because of it’s tucked away location, Galaxy’s Edge often seems to have lower crowds than other areas of the park. Walk around the shops in the open-air market, grab a bite to eat, interact with droids outside Droid Depot or snag a walk-up reservation for Oga’s Cantina. […]
