Using Miles to fly to Disneyland

Santa Ana is our favorite airport near Disneyland to fly into from PDX.

There’s lots of credit cards you can open to earn miles good for booking airline tickets to Disneyland. Begin by 1. Reading here to find out which airport to fly into for Disneyland vacations, then 2. Choosing an airline that offers regular, reasonably priced flights between your airport and one of the Los Angeles airports on that list, and 3. Selecting a corresponding card below to open and begin banking miles! Check out the current bonus at each of the links below–sign-up bonus amounts fluctuate, but generally opening one card should earn roughly enough miles for at least one round-trip flight to Disneyland (read more about how we use points and miles to book hotel, airfare and Disneyland tickets). SOUTHWEST RAPID REWARDS CARDS

Consider starting with a Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards card for two reasons: 1. Chase issues these cards, and Chase will only let you open cards with them if you’ve opened less than 5 cards in the past 24 months, and 2. Right now they’re offering 30,000 bonus points plus Companion Pass® through 2/28/23 after spending $1000-$5000 at one of three different Rapid Rewards cards to open to earn Rewards good for booking flights on Southwest Airlines to Disneyland.

One drawback to Southwest is that they’re a standalone airline, not part of an alliance; this means you can’t use SW miles to fly on other airlines. The rest of the airlines in this post are members of One World or Star Alliance, so collecting miles with them gives you access to all the airlines in their partnership.

One World Alliance Cards:

AMERICAN AIRLINES AADVANTAGE CARDS

We recently opened two of these cards, because we fly Alaska and can use AAdvantage miles to book Alaska flights. Citi offers four different cards to open to earn AAdvantage miles to use to book American Airlines flights to Disneyland. There are fourteen different airlines in the One World Alliance, so with AAdvantage miles you can book flights on any of them:

ALASKA AIRLINES CARDS

Because we live in the PNW, Alaska is our airline of choice. We hold two Alaska cards and enjoy one companion fare per year on each card (with a companion fare, fly anywhere Alaska flies and bring a companion for only a $99 fare, plus taxes and fees starting at $22) Open an Alaska airlines card to earn miles to book flights to Disneyland on Alaska Airlines; similarly to AAdvantage miles, you’ll have access to all the airlines in their partnership (we’ve flown roundtrip to Europe several times using Alaska miles on British Airways).

Star Alliance Cards:

DELTA SKYMILES CARDS

American Express offers three different cards to open to earn Skymiles to to book flights on Delta Airlines to Disneyland; because they’re a Star Alliance partner, Delta points will also give you access to United and 25 other airlines:

UNITED EXPLORER CARDS

Here are four United Explorer Cards to open to earn miles to book flights to Disneyland on United Airlines, or to use on one of their many partners.

TAKEAWAYS

Doing a little bit of research and opening one or more of these cards will get you well on your way to flying almost free to Disneyland! Have a magical trip.
